Lowell Resident Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud Scheme

A Mill City resident is one of five individuals to plead guilty to one count of wire fraud in connection with a telemarketing scheme involving California companies.

42-year old Michael McDonagh, who currently lives in Lowell, was the lead defendant in a scheme in which dozens of timeshare owners were scammed out of millions of dollars. The former Long Beach, CA resident admitted to more than $3.5 million in actual losses caused by him or his co-schemers, whom he employed at his telemarketing companies between 2015 and May of 2019.

The scam was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service and the Huntington Beach Police Department. District Judge David O. Carter scheduled an October 30 sentencing hearing, at which time McDonagh faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
