Bahou Not Running for Re-election to GLTHS School Committee

Fred Bahou, who serves on both the Lowell Public and Greater Lowell Regional Technical High School Committees, tells InsideLowell he will not seek another term on the vocational school board.

“After much consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election to the seat which I have held for 17-years,” Bahou wrote in a text message. “The years that I have served have been a great experience with many accomplishments, including a successful $62-million renovation that included a new cafeteria and a new roof. In the terms that I have been here, we increased our capacity for students who attend Greater Lowell Tech, increased the graduation rate, as well as our attendance rate. We have added a turf field, developed a summer program with the Lowell Youth Leadership Academy, enhanced our Electrical Department, and supported our staff, students and administration.”

Bahou defeated incumbent Stacey Thompson in 2023 to also secure a slot on the LPS committee as the District 1 (Pawtucketville and Upper Highlands) representative Since that time, he has served in both capacities and spearheaded the effort to bring vocational programs to Lowell High School. That effort is in its final stages and appears on track to be be implemented when students return to the classroom for the next academic year in August.

“The overall experience I have had at GL Tech has been one that has made a lasting impression on our four communities and I am thankful to have been a part of it these last 17-years I was there, but now it is time to step back and give others the opportunity to serve this wonderful school community,” Bahou added. ”

Bahou’s departure from the race opens the door for at least one new face to serve as a Lowell representative on the GLTHS board.

Incumbent Ralph Hogan confirmed to InsideLowell this morning he will seek another four-year term. Downtown resident Brady McCarron entered the race in early April, and Anthony Milisci is also campaigning for the seat.

Both McCarron and Milisci are graduates of the school. Both have also sought the seat previously, with McCarron running a hard fought campaign in 2018 and Milisci mounting a write in campaign in 2022.
