Lowell Police responded to a shooting in downtown just after noon today.

The investigation is ongoing, but sources tell us the incident happened at 12:07pm near, or possibly even inside one of Canal Place apartment units on Market Street, in the area of the Roy Parking Garage. Multiple police and emergency vehicles were visible on the scene.

We are also told a suspect is in custody and the victim was transported to the hospital. The condition of the victim remains unknown.

As for the suspect in custody, our information is he is not from the Lowell area.

A neighbor familiar with the dwelling where the victim lives tells InsideLowell that particular unit has long been a trouble spot for neighbors and has been the scene of various incidents in the past.
